Cam’ron Recalls “Weird” Text from Jay-Z After Historic B-Sides Performance

Must Read

Cam’ron recently opened up about an unexpected and “weird” text message he received from Jay-Z following their iconic performance together at the B-Sides concert. The moment, which saw the two New York rap legends briefly set aside years of tension, offered fans a glimpse of unity in one of hip-hop’s most storied rivalries.

The historic event took place in April 2019 at Webster Hall in New York City, where Jay-Z hosted the highly anticipated B-Sides concert. The night was packed with memorable appearances from hip-hop heavyweights, including Nas, Jim Jones, Cam’ron, and DJ Young Guru. A standout moment came when Cam’ron joined Jay-Z on stage to perform their classic collaboration “Welcome to New York City,” originally featuring Juelz Santana. The performance was electric, reigniting nostalgia among fans and celebrating the best of New York rap.

Years later, Cam’ron shared details about an intriguing exchange with Jay-Z after the event on his YouTube show, Talk With Flee. “Jay hit me up after the concert and texted, ‘Yo, that was dope last night,’” Cam recalled. He responded graciously, expressing his appreciation for the opportunity to bury the hatchet. But then Jay-Z added a comment that left Cam’ron scratching his head: “‘See how much we can get done when n**s stop acting like there’s fake beef out here? That sh*t slows things down.’”

Cam admitted he wasn’t sure what to make of the remark. “I didn’t know how to take that,” he said. “I replied, ‘No matter what, you, Dame, and Biggs gave me the chance to feed my family legally, so I’ve got no issues.’ But inside, I was like, ‘Why would he even say that?’ Even now, I’m not mad, but it felt strange.”

Since that night, Cam’ron revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Jay-Z again, though he maintains respect for his former collaborator. “I haven’t seen or talked to him since that text,” he said. “I’ve spoken to Juan [Jay-Z’s associate], and he’s cool. I respect what they’re doing, but I’m fine if me and Hov never speak again.”

When asked about the possibility of future collaborations, Cam’ron seemed doubtful. “I don’t see a collab happening,” he admitted. “Neither of us is really doing music like that anymore, so it’s not something I’m thinking about.”

The relationship between Cam’ron and Jay-Z has always been polarizing, marked by collaboration and conflict. In the years leading up to the B-Sides concert, the two traded subliminal disses. On Cam’ron’s 2006 track “You Gotta Love It,” he accused Jay-Z of recycling lyrics from The Notorious B.I.G. Jay-Z later responded on Drake’s 2013 track “Pound Cake,” subtly addressing the criticism.

Despite the history, the two share a legacy of impactful collaborations that helped define New York hip-hop in the 2000s. Tracks like “Welcome to New York City” and Cam’s appearances on The Blueprint 2 remain fan favorites.

As for Jay-Z, recent rumors suggest the Brooklyn icon may be preparing to release a new album, potentially containing a diss aimed at another high-profile rapper.
