Born in Florida to military parents, Ash’s childhood was marked by frequent moves, including a stint in Germany. Her journey into acting began at a performing arts school in Atlanta, and later attended Emory University where she studied medicine.
Her first big break was on Logo’s “The Big Gay Sketch Show,” which was produced by Rosie O’Donnell. She appeared on the show alongside Colman Domingo, Kate McKinnon, Stephen Guarino and more.
The American actress was also known for her roles on Fox’s “Mad TV,” Starz’s “Survivor’s Remorse,” and BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood.” Her infectious laughter and sharp wit endeared her to audiences everywhere.
In a statement obtained by TMZ, Erica’s mother mourned her daughter’s passing, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash (1977-2024). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.”
She adds, “Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humor, and genuine zest for life. Her memory will live eternally in our hearts.”
Comedian and actor Mike Epps, who starred alongside Erica in “Survivor’s Remorse,” lauded his former castmate for her vibrant personality and inspiring talent. “RIP ERICA. Gone too soon. She was such a great person to work with, full of life, funny, and talented,” he wrote alongside a photo of them on set. “You left a great mark on earth.”
Tisha Campbell-Martin also shared a heartfelt tribute, posting a sweet selfie of them together. The actress called Erica her “little sister” and the “light” in her and many others’ lives.
“I had to delete my earlier post because my heart aches so much. God, I will miss you. With all the ugliness that this world and sometimes our industry brings, there are few among us that are the LIGHT and you are that for so many. You are talented, you are funny, you are brilliant, and you are flying with much-earned wings. My God, Erica, this is a rough one man!!!! I love you, my little sister. RIP.”
Erica Ash is survived by her mother Diann and her sister Adrienne.
Condolences to her friends and family during this difficult time.
