Playboi Carti’s ‘I Am Music’ Finally Drops and the Internet Can’t Handle It

Must Read

After years of cryptic teasers, delays, and an almost mythical buildup, Playboi Carti’s third studio album, I Am Music, has finally arrived. Released through AWGE and Interscope Records, the album clocks in at 30 tracks with a star-studded lineup of features—including Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Skepta and more.

“I Am Music” marks Carti’s first full-length release since 2020’s Whole Lotta Red. Fans have been starving for this moment, and now that it’s here, social media is absolutely erupting.

Posts on X captured the moment perfectly: “PLAYBOI CARTI dropped I AM MUSIC 🚨 GO STREAM ON SPOTIFY,” one user shouted, hyping the “insane” 30-track list and Kendrick Lamar’s two standout features. Another chimed in, “Carti was on point with Akademiks,” referencing DJ Akademiks’ pre-release claims of a “day one classic.”

The excitement wasn’t just about the music—it was about the end of a five-year saga. Fans who’d been dissecting every snippet since Carti’s Rolling Loud Miami performance in December 2024 were ready to crown this a cultural reset. “The wait was worth it,” one X user declared

While some praised the album, others voiced concerns about its quality. “i am music sounding alot like you couldve kept that sh*t ngl,” one user snarked. Some criticized the album’s length (30 tracks is a lot to digest), while others questioned if Carti’s Future-esque delivery was too derivative. “I waited five years for this?” one disappointed fan tweeted.

The Features Steal the Show

The guest list is a huge talking point. Kendrick Lamar’s two features have X users losing their minds, with posts like “Kendrick just smacked the shit!” racking up retweets. Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug round out a lineup that’s got fans debating who stole the spotlight. “This ain’t *I Am Music*, this is *We Are Music*,” one clever commenter noted, while another commented, “Skepta has the best verse.”

The album’s release was delayed by three hours due to sample clearance issues. Carti explained in a text, ‘If it wasn’t for the Samples and clearances it would been out at 12 East but we good. Err thing cleared it should be out in any sec,’ and added, ‘Yo boy Uzi snapped.’

What’s your take? on *I Am Music*? Are you still mad about the wait?
