Have you ever wondered how much rappers charge for features? Thanks to interviews, leaks, and the occasional social media rants, we’ve gained some insight into the price tags attached to having certain rappers lend their voices to a track. Here’s a closer look at what we know about some of the biggest names in the game and their feature fees.
Artist: Jay-Z
Booking Fee: Free
JAY-Z revealed during an interview with Kevin Hart for his Hart to Heart series that he never charges for features on other artists’ songs.
“(It’s based) mostly relationships… It’s actually always been mostly relationships. Sometimes it’s talent. Pretty much every song that I’m on, I’m asked to be on. I don’t ask people to be on their songs,” he explained, adding: “I never charge.”
The father of three went on to note that he rejects more requests than he accepts.
“I try to be straight up,” the 52-year-old asserted. “Sometimes it slips through the cracks. Sometimes I want to do it, and my life is in a certain place, and I’m moving and I can’t do it. But I typically try to be straight up with people. I don’t like to drag and waste people’s time.”
While speaking with The Art Of Dialogue, No Limit rapper Silkk The Shocker confirmed Jay-Z never charges his close associates for features.
“Our relationship was dope because when I did the song with him, I thought I had a budget for him,” Silkk said about his 1999 song with Hov, “You Know What We Bout.” “I was like, ‘Yo, I got a hundred racks’ — that’s a lot of money back in the day too! I’m sure he could’ve used the extra $100,000; who ain’t gonna use that? When I hit him up, I’m like, ‘Yo, the song is dope, you killed it. Where should I send that bread too?’ Jay was like, ‘Nah, it’s good, man. Just keep it and we’ll figure out something later on down the line.’”
“He won’t do it for anybody, though; he won’t even do music for anybody. What I came to learn was that it’s bigger than [money] for him,” he said. “To me, that’s consistent with [where he is] today — if you look at him, it’s not a fluke that he’s successful.”
Artist: Future
Booking Fee: $250K
While doing media roundups in promotion of her sophomore album, Traumazine. Megan Thee Stallion revealed she paid Future $250k to appear on “Pressurelicious.”
“It’s a really crazy story,” she said in a previous interview with the LA Leakers. “I had the beat for Pressurelicious… and I recorded the song and I recorded it one way. And I’m like ‘you know what, this would really sound hard if Future was on this shit.”
“So how I went about it was, okay, somebody figure out what Future feature price,” she continued. “I was just asking what’s his feature price…and they was like okay 250. He wants 250K.”
“I was like, ‘Okay, bet.’ Somebody go pull 250,000 out of the bank…and go drop it off to Future and tell him I need the verse before he leaves [Miami].”
Artist: Lil baby
Booking Fee: $100k
Lil Baby in 2020 revealed in a tweet that he wants no less than $100k for a verse.
”At this point it’s safe to say I want 100k for a feature.” No public confirmation on if he followed through with his tweet, but Quality Control Records boss Pierre “Pee” Thomas believes a Baby verse should be worth double. (That was 2020, a Baby verse may be worth double of that now).
UPDATE: Lil Baby has revealed he now charges about $300k to $350k for a verse. He made mention of the new rate during an appearance on Big Loon’s The Experience podcast.
“I don’t even be doing features no more,” he tells Big Loon when asked how much he charges for features. “Like, $300,000, $350,000. But I ain’t been doing features lately.”
The Atlanta staple explained he paused his guest appearances because he was busy working on his new project, but is willing to hop on a track when he’s got the time.
“But if I know I ain’t putting out no album, or I ain’t got nothing going on, like, why not?” he explained.
Artist: J. Cole
Booking Fee: Free
J. Cole’s feature rate has been up for debate in the past and has been assumed to cost around $2000 per word. However, in a new interview on Lil Yachty and Mitch’s A Safe Place podcast, the Dreamville Records co-founder revealed he doesn’t charge for features. According to Cole, “I don’t charge n-ggas because I wanna be on the song.”
Artist: Kanye West
Booking Fee: $8 million
Kanye West claims he charges $8 million to make an appearance. I doubt he charges that, but the former billionaire made the claims while correcting an account on Instagram that quoted his price wrong.
“Please change this my performance fee is $8 million,” West said. Ye’s $8 million per show claim aligns with a previous TMZ post that alleges the rapper gave up an $8 million payday when he refused to perform at Coachella this year.
Artist: NBA YoungBoy
Booking Fee: $300k
According to Wack 100, NBA YoungBoy charges $300k for features. The talkative manager made the revelation during a Clubhouse chat with Ma$e.
“Sometimes when it comes down to a situation that I had to make an executive decision about,” Wack explains while speaking on his decision to pull YB’s verse on O.P.P. from Game’s new album. “In YoungBoy’s defense, YoungBoy charges n-ggas 300,000 a verse. That’s what he charge. He gave us a hell of deal [150K]. But that situation would have cut into marketing overall.”
“He only sent me a bill for 150, 300 is his rate,” Wack added.”
Artist: Snoop Dogg
Booking Fee: $250K
While at the Nelk Boys’ Full Send Podcast to discuss his Super Bowl performance and his latest projects. Snoop Dogg revealed that he charges $250,000 for a verse.
if a video were to accompany it, he says that would run another $250,000. “You’ll get about 16 bars,” he said. “And when it’s time to do the video, I need to get another $250,000 up out of you. And you only got an hour so get to filming.”
Artist: DaBaby
Booking Fee: $100K
During a spirited rant on IG, T.I.’s son, King Harris revealed DaBaby charged him $100k for a feature. He also called out Sexyy Red for trying to charge him $50K for a show.
“But Sexyy Redd talked to us … they try to text me like on some 50K plus sh*t. These same people like Dababy tried to get 100K for a feature. Like stuff like that. Because if I f**k with you I try to support your sh*t. I wouldn’t do that to them. I ain’t never do that to no n****s.”
Artist: Blueface
Booking Fee: $40,000
Blueface revealed in a tweet that he charges $40,000 for a feature and video. He made the announcement in response to a post by his baby mama, Jaidyn Alexis, celebrating their new collaboration, “Barbie.” Alexis wrote, “Not I only been doing music like 3 months [and] got a Blueface feature.” Blueface replied, “Little do they know that sh-t cost 40K for song and video with me Today.”
